Michele Terranova, Ph.D.

Principal Human Factors Engineer

Michele holds a Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology with a concentration in Human Factors from Old Dominion University. She brings more than 25 years of expertise in Human Factors and User Interface Design, with experience spanning nuclear, military, aviation, and process control industries.

Michele previously served as Director of Human Factors Research at Concord Associates, Inc. and as a Senior Research Scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Her work has included the analysis, design, and evaluation of interactive systems and websites across diverse domains such as transportation (public and commercial), nuclear, military, and government.

In the pipeline industry, Michele provides Human Factors consulting and training with contributions including:

  • Ergonomic designs for updated control centers
  • Alarm management analyses and reduction plans
  • SCADA display evaluations
  • Human Factors assessments and workload studies

Her blend of academic expertise and applied experience allows her to develop practical, research-based solutions that enhance safety, usability, and operational excellence in high-stakes environments.
